Buddha Purnima is the celebration of Gautam Buddha’s birth and falls on the full moon in the Hindu month of Vaisakha. Buddha Purnima 2017 will be commemorated on 10th May by followers of Buddhism, and the festival is also recognised as Vesak or Buddha Day. Vesak holds immense significance for followers of Gautam Buddha and his path. Also known as Buddha Jayanti, Buddhists seek the blessings of Gautam Buddha and celebrate the teachings of their spiritual teacher. Buddha Purnima is an international festival which is celebrated by people who have chosen to walk on the path of Gautam Buddha and is also observed as a public holiday in countries like India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and others. 
Buddha Purnima is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in this religion and Buddhists visits temples and other places of religious significance on this day to celebrate the two main virtues of Buddhism, kindness and non-violence.
